Before first use you would need to hand wash it with water (do not use soap) and let it dry completely.You don't need to wash them after each use.
Once you've put your sourdough in the oven to bake you can just turn the Banneton upside down and gently pat off any excess flour. You can also use the cleaning brush to easily dislodge the flour.
However if you have a heavy build-up of flour or have some sticky dough on it you can rinse it under cold water and use the cleaning brush to clean the excess dough and flour. Make sure to leave it somewhere warm with good air circulation to allow the basket to fully dry out.
